Tips on Attracting Gen Y Talent
The war for recruiting talent has never been more fierce. In fact, a SuccessFactors survey found that 98% of executives and human resource professionals thought the competition for talent was increasing in their industry. Nearly all those polled stated it was more expensive than ever to attract the very best people.
Combine this with the fact that Gen Y employees are less loyal and more driven by career development opportunities, and you can see why it is difficult to attract young, top talent.
Here are 4 tips for attracting Gen Y Talent:
1) Create a strong corporate brand. Develop creative collateral to give away at fairs, market your green image (if you have one), and make your organization a cool place to work.
2) Use LinkedIn to recruit.
3) Respond to all applications. If you don’t hire people, tell them why and what they have to do to improve their application. This increases the likelihood that an applicant re-applies when he knows that he meets your criteria.
5) Create a strong mission statement. Know the values of Gen Y, and market to them in your mission statement. Gen Y wants to be part of a company they can believe in.
6) Pay competitively. Understand what the competition is paying and consider offering different types of incentive packages.
